The world of Aethergard

The sun does not rise here…
It unveils…

The Light comes as a wave, washing all darkness away and promising safety to everyone it touches…

At six, every child kneels and receives a Mark. Sun Guard. Archivist. Founder. The Mark is the anchor — the promise that the world has agreed to remember you.

Some children receive nothing at all.

They are called the Undefined. The System does not record them, so the maps show them as static — black dots beneath the rivers of gold. Cleaning errors. Noise.

And lately, the noise has been going quiet. Whole settlements of them. They do not die — a death leaves its own mark on the map. They do not move. They simply cease to be data.

Those who travel at night don’t need a map —
the Light forgets where they live anyway.
— an old Sun Guard saying

Erik was Defined. A captain of the Sun Guard — and the only man to walk out of the first Rift alive. The Kingdom made him a hero, and then it exiled him. He tore a strip from his captain's cape, tied it over his eyes, and became the hunter who does not see, hunting only through the rest of his senses.

He is the only man alive who can feel that the light is going wrong.

Light that stops holding the world together.

One world. One sun. Endless horizon.

The Ring

Aethergard does not orbit its sun — it encircles it. The world turns clockwise around a fixed star, and the light crosses it like a tide. Aurelion holds barely a sixth of the ring. Open the living atlas to follow its roads, discover its cities, and explore the records beyond the chart.

A word on content. This is grimdark. It contains mass death, body horror, torture, harm to children, a suicide bombing and a beheading. Nothing is there for shock, but it is all there.
